Holly Berry show at The Green Lion Gallery
Celebrated local artist, Holly Berry, will be showing her linocut prints at The Green Lion Gallery in Boothbay Harbor at 16 Granary Way (Chowder House building) and at the Green Lion in Bath on Front Street. The opening reception will be held at the Bath gallery Friday, June 16 from 4-7 p.m. during the Bath Art Walk.
Perhaps best known for her award winning illustrations, Berry also has a passion for relief printing. Focusing primarily on wildlife and natural settings, her prints are dynamic and bold, engaging the viewer immediately with their rich colors and imaginative play of patterns.
Berry says, “I also have a great affinity for the relief printing process and love working with linoleum as a medium because of its transformative qualities. I especially like the process of cutting my designs from a block. Starting only with clear outlines of shapes, the journey of choices begins. To cut or not to cut! Having to simultaneously consider, analyze and address the negative and positive aspects of a design requires an immediate, deliberate and direct focus that I find meditative.”
In addition to numerous awards for her illustrations, in 2003 Holly Berry was honored to receive an Individual Artists Fellowship Award from the Maine Arts Commission for her work in printmaking. She holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, an MFA from Boston University and has shown her work extensively at galleries and museums across the state of Maine.
