Parker to resign as Damariscotta selectman
George Parker, who has served as a selectman the last three years and was just reelected in June for another three years, has announced he will resign, effective when he moves, as expected, across the river to Newcastle or upon the election in November.
Parker is first vice chair of the board. He has a long history of public service in Damariscotta, serving on the Planning Board, the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee and the Damariscotta Harbor Improvement Project Committee. He has served as the town’s representative on the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission’s board of directors and has been a member of the board of directors of Skidompha Library.
In his resignation letter dated Aug. 23, Parker states he “would be happy to continue serving until either we move or the new person is elected in November, whichever happens first.”
He said he needed to let the selectmen know now, so they could do what is necessary to announce the seat will have to be filled and people can take out papers to serve. He said it had been a pleasure to serve with them and everyone else in the town for the last 30-plus years. He added, he would be more than willing to provide advice and even serve on a committee when appropriate to add an “outsider’s” viewpoint.
Lutkus sent the Wiscasset Newspaper the letter Monday, Aug. 28.
