Investigation results in trafficking prison contraband charges
A month-long investigation at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset has resulted in numerous charges for drug trafficking. The investigation began in early August, when corrections officers intercepted incoming mail that contained Suboxone strips. Further investigation revealed inmates assigned to the outside work crew were also allegedly smuggling Suboxone into the facility.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division charged the following people:
Heather McAlister, 28, of Mexico was arrested and charged with Trafficking Prison Contraband, Class C, and Violation of Conditional Release. McAlister is being held without bail at TBRJ.
Brendon McLellan, 31, of Newcastle and James “Ryan” Whitham of Belfast were each arrested and charged with Trafficking Prison Contraband, Class C.
TBRJ inmate Jordan Bennett, 31, of Rumford and Jonathan Smith, 29, of Rumford, were each summonsed on a charge of Trafficking Prison Contraband, Class C.
Smith’s father, Russell Smith, 61, of Carthage was summonsed on a charge of Trafficking Prison Contraband, Class C and held on a Probation Violation at Franklin County Jail.
Assisting agencies in this investigation included Rumford and Mexico police, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and TBRJ. The investigation continues. Anyone having relevant information is asked to contact Detective Jared Mitkus at 882-7332.
