Have a slice of heaven over Pumpkinfest weekend
Pies-by-the-slice are on sale over Pumpkinfest Weekend, Oct. 8, 9 and 10, thanks to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church next to the river in Newcastle. The church will use its Main Street parking lot for “Heavenly Pies” — selling pumpkin, apple and pecan pies baked by skilled parishioners along with cider and coffee. Whole pies will be available as well as pies-by-the-slice. All proceeds will support St. Andrew’s outreach partners in Lincoln County, Lewiston, Haiti and elsewhere. Last year outreach support to these non-profits came to more than $23,000.
So, in the course of the Pumpkinfest festivities, do stop by the corner of Glidden and Main for a taste of pie and a chance to unwind and relax in the shade. The church with its beautiful sanctuary, designed by the architect of the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., will be open for visitors and sight-seers whether or not they bought a pie slice. But the more pies we sell at “Heavenly Pies” the more we will be supporting programs like the Newcastle Food Pantry, the Community Energy Fund, the volunteer driver program Lincoln County FISH, the Homeless Prevention Council and others.
Drop by “Heavenly Pies” and have a taste! There also will be a raffle for free delivery of three pies of the winner’s choice anywhere in Lincoln County on the week before Thanksgiving. And you can bid on signed copies of the charming children’s book “Pumpkin, Pumpkin” written and illustrated by Jeanne Titherington, a St. Andrew’s parishioner.
“Heavenly Pies” will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Oct. 8-10 in the church’s parking lot next to Sproul’s Furniture on Main Street, Newcastle.
