Diabetes-friendly cooking class
Learn how to cook tasty, nutritious meals that are diabetes-friendly at LincolnHealth’s free diabetes and prediabetes cooking class series beginning Wednesday, Oct. 25.
“When people are diagnosed with prediabetes or diabetes, they often need to change their eating habits to help manage their condition” stated Kelly Holbrook, LincolnHealth director of wellness and rehabilitation. “Food can still taste amazing. We will show you some cooking tricks to keep your taste buds excited.”
Participants will learn low-carbohydrate breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack recipes as well as tips for shopping on a budget and how to read food labels. The series of three classes is open to individuals with a diagnosis of diabetes or prediabetes, or those who routinely cook for someone with a diagnosis.
The classes will take place at the FARMS Kitchen at Rising Tide in Damariscotta on Wednesday, Oct. 25, Nov. 1, and Nov. 8 from 4-6 p.m. Each class will cover different topics so participants are encouraged to attend all three classes in the series.
“Eating well and being physically active can help those with diabetes or prediabetes have better glucose control, help them feel better, and delay or prevent diabetes complications” stated Kristina Verney, LincolnHealth program coordinator for community health and 5-2-1-0 Let’s Go!, a childhood obesity prevention program.
Classes will be led by Verney and LincolnHealth Registered Dietitian Elisabeth Cardali.
