The Edgecomb Fire Department responded to 14 calls in September.

On Sept. 2, the department responded to a medical call on Cross Point Road. The patient showed signs of being nauseous, weak, dizzy and had vomited, according to the report. The patient was evaluated by first responders before care was turned over to an ambulance crew. The EFD later responded to a U.S. Route 1 structure fire. The fire was extinguished with minimal damage.

On Sept. 11, the department responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Route 27, but the vehicle left the scene prior to the department’s arrival.

On Sept. 12, the department provided mutual aid station coverage in Newcastle while local firefighters extinguished a structure fire.

On Sept. 13, the department responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Route 27. First responders reported property damage only.

On Sept. 14, the department responded to a medical call for a patient experiencing leg pain. First responders provided treatment  before turning care over to an ambulance crew. The EFD responded to a malfunctioning fire alarm.  First responders unplugged the device and changed the batteries. The apartment’s  carbon monoxide detector was also malfunctioning. The device was beeping despite a monitor showings gas levels at zero. The first responders contacted building maintenance to replace or fix the device. The EFD responded to a motor vehicle accident on Blake Farm Road. First responders attended to a vehicle which had rolled into a ditch. The vehicle sustained minor damage and no injuries were reported.

On Sept. 15, the EFD responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 27 where a box truck spilled its load filled with fish bait and rolled into a ditch. The department reported significant property damage, but no injuries. First responders provided traffic control by re-routing vehicles to River and McKay roads. The EFD remained for several hours as workers removed the truck and spill from the intersection.

On Sept. 16, the department reported to a medical emergency on Dowdy Lane. The patient couldn’t stand due to “weepy” and “bleeding” legs. First responders provided assistance until the patient was transported to the hospital.

On Sept. 25, the EFD provided mutual aid for a Bristol structure fire.

On Sept. 26, the department responded to a medical emergency for a Route 27 patient being “weak and nauseous” for 24 hours. First responders provided evaluation before assisting with loading the patient into an ambulance.

On Sept. 29, the EFD received a report of smoke on Cochran Road near U.S. Route 1. There was no fire. First responders believe smoke came from a vehicle doing a “burnout.”

On Sept. 30, the EFD responded to a medical emergency on Middle Road. The patient fell from a ladder and possibly broke a leg and dislocated a knee. First responders treated the patient until an ambulance arrived.
