Robert A. Lewis
Robert Albert Lewis, 85, of Boothbay, died peacefully on Oct. 12, 2017 at the Gregory Wing of St. Andrews Village, 145 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor.
Robert attended the Boothbay schools. On Nov. 13, 1952, Robert joined the U.S. Navy and decided to make it his career. In 1972 Robert transferred to the Fleet Reserve for 10 years. While in the service, Robert received many medals. His Vietnam medal was with 5 bronze stars and one silver. He also received a bronze star for good conduct.
From 1983 to 2000 Robert delivered the U.S. mail in East Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor. Robert also worked at Romar Bowling Lanes in Boothbay Harbor.
Robert loved to play cribbage and poker. He loved his cats and spoiled them beyond belief. Robert could often be found riding his tractor and mowing fields for many people. And enjoyed going to Moody’s Diner for dinner, especially for the hot turkey dinners with pie.
Robert was born in Boothbay Harbor, the son of Clarence Lewis Sr. and Katherine Soule Lewis.
Robert was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Lewis Jr., and sister, Mildred Barbaro.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Boothbay and daughter Tracy Smith of Boothbay; brother, Dabney Lewis of Oakland; sister, Candice White of Dresden; grandson: Xavier Downing of Boothbay; granddaughter, Josey Smith and grandson: Brett Smith, both of Boothbay. Robert had several nephews, nieces and cousins.
There will be graveside service with military honors on Friday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Boothbay Harbor.
