BRAF’s Art in the Square 2017 invites community participation
Boothbay Region Art Foundation is once again gearing up for the ever-popular 12” by 12” Art in the Square exhibit. Now is the time for regional artists to get a canvas and create a masterpiece. This challenge is for people of all ages to exercise their imaginations and paint, draw, glue, print, weave or whatever upon 144 square inches (not counting the edges) of empty, white space.
The purpose of this endeavor is to raise money for BRAF’s Scholarship Fund and sponsorship of the Annual K-thru-12 Student Show. It also benefits the local economy since artist/participants gain 75 percent of each $100 dollar canvas sold. Customers also gain a chance to purchase original artwork just in time for Holiday gift-giving.
Finished Squares need to be delivered to the gallery at One Townsend Avenue by Nov. 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or Nov. 21, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This assures readiness for Black Friday on Nov. 24, the day after Thanksgiving, when the exhibit doors open at 10 am. Based on tradition, sales are brisk most of the day.
Art in the Square continues throughout the downtown Festival of Lights, including an open house and reception during the Harbor Lights Festival, Dec. 2, 4 to 6 p.m.
