It looks like winter’s here but officially it doesn’t arrive until next Thursday, Dec. 21, the day marking the winter solstice, with the shortest day and longest night of the year. For the Men’s Night celebration on Thursday, Dec. 21, Studio 53 Fine Art will be open from 5-8 p.m. during its “Fall Into Winter” show. Art in this show includes the painting above, “Winter Delight,” an 18” x 18” oil on canvas by Lynne Seitzer depicting a child experiencing a first snow of the season. Exuberance and joy radiate from a smiling face as the snowflakes fall on rosy cheeks. Can’t make Men’s Night? The gallery, at 53 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor, is open Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will hold its Christmas Pageant as part of the Dec. 24 Christmas Eve Service at 4 p.m. at the church on Glidden Street in Newcastle. If you have kids or grandchildren who would like to join in, we would love to include them. All ages are welcome, infants through teenagers! The single practice will be held in the sanctuary on Saturday, Dec. 23, 10 a.m. to noon, when we will hand out parts and costumes, then walk through the pageant twice, finding a place for each child to shine. No memorization is required for this simple, yet lovely annual telling of the Christmas story as found in the Book of Luke, and featuring carols sung by the congregation. If possible, please contact Director of Choirs Linda Blanchard before the practice at lindamaine@mac.com or 380-2768 to let her know your child’s age and preferred part. Courtesy photo
