Munro Kinsey
Munro Kinsey of Utica, New York, world traveler, hobbyist, photographer extraordinaire, outdoor enthusiast and lover of the natural world died Dec. 15, 2017, at the Waterville Residential Care Facility. He was 80 years old.
Munro was born in Utica, New York on July 22, 1937, son of Happy Munro and Lloyd Furman Kinsey. Much of his early childhood was spent in Edmonds, Washington where his dad was stationed with the U.S. government war effort. He later attended school for a while in Utica before the family moved to Fairfax, Virginia where he graduated from high school in 1955. He then attended the University of Colorado for three years before serving in the U.S. Navy. Upon leaving the service, he rejoined his family, then living in New Hartford, New York, and completed his college work at Utica College in 1966. He was employed at the C.I.A., the National Geographic Society and, in later years, for the Oneida County Health Dept. Munro was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Utica.
He leaves a son, Christopher, of Utica; a brother Bruce (Maureen) of Southport, Maine; two sisters, Carol of Stockton Springs, Maine, and Karen Roberts (Philip) of Boothbay Harbor, Maine. He is also survived by his former wife and good friend, Elaine Griswold, of New Hartford, New York.
Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
