Thompson: Crowd possible at candlelight service, bring a candle to share
With the extensive media coverage, including television stations calling about the candlelight service, and with the sadness being expressed locally on the death of Kendall Chick, quite a few people may turn out for Wednesday’s service, Wiscasset Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Thompson said Monday.
The event at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 20 in the circle outside Wiscasset Community Center will be under way while the center is open, with other activities going on, so attendees may want to consider parking in the lower lot at Wiscasset Middle High School, Thompson said. Also, the center has a limited supply of candles to provide, so Thompson advises attendees to bring a candle and if possible a second one, to share.
The 4-year-old’s death has been on people’s minds when they come to the center, and they’ve been talking about it, since the news broke and new reports have continued to come out, Thompson said. She expects the service will be a supportive time of residents and possibly other attendees from the wider region coming together.
As of early Tuesday, organizer Erica Sherman’s Facebook page on the event showed 58 people going and 116 interested.
