‘Talking Music’ with Cidny Bullens
Following on its highly successful “Talking Art in Maine” series, Lincoln Theater in downtown Damariscotta is pleased to add a new program of conversations. This time, the theater is proud to present “Talking Music in Maine: Intimate Conversations,” exploring the musicians craft with artists who have had an impact on the music scene in Maine and beyond, beginning Thursday, April 12 at 7 p.m.
The first special guest is Cidny Bullens, a two-time Grammy nominated American singer-songwriter who debuted as backup vocalist on tours and albums with Elton John and Rod Stewart in the 1970s; as well as providing vocals on the soundtrack of the 1977 feature film “Grease.” In 2012, Bullens came out as transsexual and changed his name from Cindy to Cidny. As an artistic outlet for coming out as transsexual, in February 2016, Bullens premiered a "one wo/man show" entitled “Somewhere Between - Not an Ordinary Life.” Nashville Scene voted it “Best One-Person Show of 2016.“
This program will be hosted by Aaron Robinson, an award–winning American composer, conductor, musicologist and recording-artist. As a conductor, Robinson has conducted several premiere works for the concert stage. He received critical acclaim for his work as conductor and musical arranger for Langston Hughes’ “Black Nativity: In Concert – A Gospel Celebration.”
Other guests in the inaugural season of “Talking Music in Maine” are jazz clarinetist, Brad Terry (May 10), composer and pianist Paul Sullivan (Sept. 20), and chorale directors Jaye Churchill and Richard Nickerson (Oct. 25). Additional information can be found by visiting the theater’s website, lcct.org or by calling the theater at 563-3424.
Lincoln Theater is located at 2 Theater St. in Damariscotta. Doors open for this free programming 45 minutes prior to the show.
