Wiscasset gathers for annual National Night Out
An event that celebrates neighborhood safety and community partnerships with police drew people of all ages to the Wiscasset town office lawn Tuesday, Aug. 6. Activities included a bounce house, touch the trucks area, dunk tank, games and raffles and food to buy, which will benefit the DARE program. Families also gathered around for a canine demonstration with Lincoln County Sheriff’s Sgt. Kevin Dennison.

Haitian Youth Choir coming to Newcastle
The Haitian Youth Choir of Holy Trinity Church in Port-au-Prince, Haiti will begin a 24-city U.S. concert tour with its first stop in Newcastle, Maine on Saturday, Aug. 24. The choir of 30 boys and girls ages 10 to 16, and an eight-piece chamber ensemble, will perform Haitian folk and sacred music at the Second Congregational Church, 51 Main St. in Newcastle at 7 p.m.

Food, fun make ‘great’ Woolwich celebration
A new record was broken in the Nequasset Paddle Race, a pecan pie won the baking contest, the cotton candy was free and a hamburger could be had for a dollar! All of this, a pair of miniature horses, and more drew a big crowd to Woolwich Community Day on Saturday, Aug. 3.

The Y-Arts Music Theatre Camp performed its second show of the summer season with Disney’s “The Aristocats Kids” at the Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta on Wednesday, July 31. Dog parade highlights Wiscasset Summerfest
First Congregational Church of Wiscasset’s Summerfest has come a long way since the Ladies’ Organ Society started it in 1983.
“It started as an arts and crafts sale,” coordinator Beth Maxwell said Saturday at the annual event. Maxwell said Summerfest has added over the years a book sale, yard sale, cafe, cookout, music and notably a dog parade.
She said all proceeds go to area charitable groups.

Lobster Roll 5k hits decade mark
Boothbay Region High School senior and champion cross-country runner Will Perkins won the 10th annual Lobster Roll 5k Race on Saturday, July 27 in Boothbay Harbor. Perkins won with a time of 17:48. He was followed by his coach and race organizer Nick Scott, 18:00, and Jason Bigonia of Walpole, 18:15.
Ariel Frederick, 33, of Cambridge, Massachusetts was the first woman to cross the finish line. Her time was 21:58.

On Main Street July 25, Perry Palmer shared with Wiscasset Art Walk goers a drink that cooled off 1700s families, including the members out haying with scythes.

Beer and shades of yesteryear were part of the main event Saturday, July 21 as Boothbay Railway Village hosted Rails, Tails and Ales and the 55th annual Antique Auto Show.

Wiscasset Speedway set to celebrate 50 years
A special weekend is approaching for Wiscasset Speedway, a weekend that has been 50 years in the making. Organizers for the first ever “Set for Success” event in Wiscasset held a bake sale fundraiser at Ames True Value Supply on Saturday, July 20.
