This is the first part in a series on how our local restaurants are navigating state regulations on health and safety concerning COVID-19. We are doing our best to be inclusive, but with so many restaurants, we may not be able to get to everyone.
However, we still want to hear your stories: How have regulations changed the way you do business? How has creative thinking made the best of your situation? Do you plan on making any permanent changes even when regulations ease… Read more
The wordless stories of Jaap Helder
The modern abstract painting in front of me draws me into its surreal world … An oval mirror near its center draws me in. I see a figure of a woman inside it. I cannot tell if she is standing or seated. She appears to be looking straight ahead at a shadow figure standing in a doorway. Who is it? And where does the doorway lead? Is temptation encouraging her to join the unknown figure into another realm of being or consciousness?
Whatever happens, it will be intense, Look! A… Read more
Wiscasset Bay Gallery to open July 1
“American Artists Here and Abroad” opens at the Wiscasset Bay Gallery on Wednesday, July 1.
Many American artists came to the New England coast to capture its untamed beauty or sail its vast, meandering shoreline dotted with islands. Such was the case with Chicago-born artist, Emily Muir (1904-2003), who settled in Stonington, Maine, with her husband, the sculptor William Muir. Together the two artists utilized paint and granite to depict the essence of Maine coastal life in the mid-… Read more

Downton Abbey sneak preview Sept. 12
“Downton Abbey.” Here in the States, our first introduction to the Crawley family was in January 2011 on PBS’ Masterpiece Theater. Until now.
