19 vets receive 'Quilts of Appreciation'
19 Americans who served their country in the U.S. military received a warm thank you Sept. 21 from the Boothbay Region. The Charles E. Sherman Jr. American Legion Post No. 36 hosted "Quilts of Appreciation," where local veterans each received a handmade quilt in appreciation for their service.
The ceremony saw veterans from all four military branches receive a quilt. U.S. Marines: Michael Bradley, Phillip Chapman, Neil Genthner Sr., Barry Sherman, and Bruce Skehan. U.S. Air Force: David Kramer and Maggie Stebner. U.S. Army: Christopher Armstead, Dennis Dacus, Bradley Drummond, Glenn Gervais, Christopher Goodwin, Cathy Moroney, Sammie Sax and Bruce Soule. U.S. Navy: Chad Detrick, Melanie Moses-Stanley, Barclay Shepard and Al Sirois.
Prior to the presentation, Hannah Hill sang the National Anthem. Jenna Guest sang "America the Beautiful" accompanied by Andre St. Pierre. Quilter Marie Reinhardt and Vietnam veteran Wayne Johnston presented the quilts. Organizer Pat Johnston gave closing remarks.
