Afternoon of Tea and Poetry
The Popham Beach Library will host an engaging “Afternoon of Tea and Poetry” with local author Julia Bouwsma, Maine State Poet Laureate, at the library on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 3 p.m.
Ms Bouwsma’s title for the afternoon is “Our Arms Spread Out Around It All, A History of Malaga Island through Poems.” The program is part of the “Summer Series” for 2024 and sponsored by Maine Humanities Council.
Ms Bouwsma is the sixth Maine State Poet Laureate (2021-2026) and author of two poetry collections, “Midden” (Fordham University Press, 2018) and “Work by Bloodlight” (Cider Press Review, 2017), both of which received Maine Literary Awards. She is the library director for Webster Library in Kingfield and also teaches intermittently in the Creative Writing department at the University of Maine at Farmington. Bouwsma lives and works on an off-the-grid homestead in the western mountains.
All are welcome to attend this free program; tea and light snacks will be served.
The Popham Beach Library welcomes all residents, seasonal residents, and visitors to stop by during regular hours, to borrow new books and DVDs, and have a cup of coffee.
