All Saints by-the-Sea services begin June 18
Worshippers and seekers of all faiths are invited to join the community that is The Church of All Saints by-the-Sea for the 2023 season. Services will begin on Sunday, June 18 and conclude on Sunday, Sept. 10. This sacred space has been a summer spiritual home to many for 117 years and we look forward to another summer of celebrating God’s love on Southport Island. The Episcopal summer chapel will hold the service of Holy Communion at 8 and 10 a.m. each week with a service of Morning Prayer on the fourth Sunday of each month at 10 a.m.
All Saints continues its tradition of welcoming visiting clergy from across the country to preside each week sharing a wealth of wisdom and diversity. The season begins with local favorite, The Rev. Paul Tunkle from Dresden, Maine and will also feature another returning Mainer, The Rev. Victoria Sirota from Searsmont, Maine. Throughout the season other engaging clergy will join us including The Rev. Martin Smith of Washington D.C., The Rev. Cristina Paglinauan of Baltimore Maryland, The Rt. Rev. Mark Beckwith of Wooster, Massachusetts and The Rev. Canon Katie Pearson from Denver, Colorado. Southport’s own The Rev. Dr. Virginia Sheay will close the season on Sept. 10.
The music program at All Saints will continue its excellence with Mr. Henry Lowe as our organist for most of the summer. Mr. Lowe has performed worldwide as a recitalist and accompanist and is retired from Church of the Redeemer in Baltimore. He is a summer resident of Walpole, Maine. As a special treat for all area residents, Mr. Lowe will be presenting an organ recital on Sunday afternoon, July 16. Mr. Timothy Harrell, from Trinity Episcopal Church in Solebury, Pennsylvania will join us for the Aug. 13 services.
In keeping with guidelines from the Episcopal Diocese of Maine, we will begin using the common cup for communion again this year in addition to the Consecrated Host. Coffee hour will be offered after the 10 a.m. service to allow residents and guests to enjoy fellowship and the outdoor beauty of the chapel’s setting.
For those worshippers who are unable to attend in person, recordings of the services will be available online the week after the service. We invite people of all faiths to join us, either in-person or virtually, as we grow in worship and prayer together. Readers can find out more about the clergy and organists, directions to the church, and other information on the church’s website, https://allsaintssouthport.org. The historic chapel will continue to be open during the week for private prayer and contemplation. All Saints has a dock and is accessible by private boat.
