The following message went out via email Thursday afternoon, Oct. 26:
“Dear Alna Residents,
“On behalf of the Alna Select Board, we are incredibly saddened to be writing to you about the tragic events that have been unfolding in our neighboring communities last night and into today.
“For any in our small community whose friends, family, or loved ones have been directly impacted by this tragedy, we recognize your pain in this horrible moment and our thoughts are with you.
“Our thoughts are also with the public safety officials who respond to any calls to protect Maine's residents, businesses, and visitors.
“Governor Mills has announced that as a mark of respect for the victims of last night's tragic events, she and President Joe Biden have ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Maine to half-staff statewide for the next five days.
