Animal Extravaganza at Wiscasset Primary School
On May 23, kindergarten and first grade students put on their spring production of Animal Extravaganza. Friends and families were treated to an art show in the school's hallways, which included animal-themed art projects created by all of the students at the primary school.
Upon arriving to the performance space, the audience found more student art decorating the stage with three-dimensional fish swimming across the top of the stage.
When the curtain opened, all of the children welcomed the audience by singing an upbeat piece inviting the audience to enjoy the show. Next, students in luau dress danced a hula with handmade fish the students created as they sang about the Hawaiian state fish, the humuhumunukunukuapau’a.
The audience was entertained by dancing kangaroos, dinosaurs, chickens and elephants throughout the program. There were also children playing instruments to a traditional song, “Tingalayo,” about a donkey that sings, dances and eats with a fork.
The finale included an act and dance to the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” while a first grade class played African drums to the song.
The production was a collaborative project by the music, art and physical education teachers at Wiscasset Primary School.
