Another storm coming February 20; snow, sleet and freezing rain possible
Lincoln County will see its third storm in as many nights Thursday night. Unlike Tuesday's and Wednesday's, this one is expected to spare evening commuters a dicey drive home.
It should arrive in the county late tonight or overnight, and continue during the day on Friday, meteorologists at the National Weather Service's Gray office said.
Expect a mixed bag of precipitation to fall both on the Boothbay peninsula and inland; snow should amount to about an inch, with warming temperatures also bringing the chance for sleet and freezing rain before a changeover to rain.
About a tenth of an inch of ice will coat the new snow, meteorologist Steve Capriola said. That should not be enough to bring down tree limbs or power lines, he said.
While tonight's commute looks trouble-free, Friday morning's could be a different story if roadways are coated with the mixed precipitation, meteorologist James Brown said.
Drivers had some minor problems, only at the outset of Wednesday night's snow, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office; in Sagadahoc County, Woolwich had no problems Wednesday night, but slide-offs occurred on Route 1 in Bath and West Bath Thursday morning due to icy conditions, a dispatcher said.
