A Waldoboro man who allegedly shot his black Labrador retriever more than 80 times last spring is expected to plead guilty February 18.

Aaron Armstrong, 33, who was arrested in Waldoboro but currently lives in Jefferson, is expected to plead guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals said David Paris, Armstrong's attorney.

“He hasn't plead yet,” Paris said. “He's scheduled to plead next Tuesday.”

Armstrong's expected deal will include no further jail time than what the more than four months he has already served. Armstrong is also likely headed for two years of probation and will not be able to own a domestic animal, Paris said.

In June 2013, Armstrong was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals after his dog, a young a black Labrador retriever, was found and brought to the Lincoln County Animal shelter in Edgecomb. After X-rays were performed, it was found that she had been peppered with a BB gun and that the BBs were still lodged under her skin from nose to tail.

After a short investigation it was found that the dog belonged to Armstrong.

According to Lincoln County Court documents, Armstrong allegedly shot the dog with the BB gun after he had been drinking and the dog reportedly misbehaved.

A South Bristol family has since adopted the dog. She has been renamed Lady.
