‘Be The One Walkathon’ in Boothbay Harbor June 3
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #36, Boothbay is supporting a national platform to reduce the rate of veteran suicide by sponsoring a Walkathon in Boothbay Harbor on June 3. Current statistics show that 24 veterans commit suicide each day.
The “Be The One” campaign will de-stigmatize veterans asking for mental health support and to create opportunities for those with mental health issues to speak freely and get the support they need.
Be The One Walkathon will take place on Saturday, June 3 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Boothbay Harbor Fire Station. A check-in table will be in place for anyone who wants to do a 3 mile walk or make a donation. Rain date is June 17.
Be The One pledge forms will be available through the American Legion at twice monthly breakfasts or you may call Cathy Rayle, walk coordinator, at (508) 277-8154.
A goal of $5,000 is earmarked to raise for this cause. Every dollar raised will be sent directly to Togus VA Hospital for the Veterans Suicide program support to our local veterans.
