Bees are focus of two Midcoast Conservancy events
To bee or not to bee. If that is the question, Midcoast Conservancy offers two opportunities to learn more about these valued pollinators. Saturday, May 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., members of the Knox-Lincoln County Beekeepers will be at Midcoast Conservancy, 290 Rt. 1 in Edgecomb, with an observation hive of honey bees, part of a native plant sale featuring plants from Rebel Hill Farm in Liberty. Experienced beekeepers will be on hand to answer questions about bees and to provide information about beekeeping and how to get started. For more information, go to https://www.midcoastconservancy.org/events/native-plant-sale-2/
If saving bees, along with blueberries and amazing views, is of interest, hikers are invited to join Susan Morris, a local organic blueberry farmer in Waldoboro, and Jade Christensen, Maine Conservation Corps Environmental Steward, to learn about the history of midcoast Maine blueberry farming, bees’ use in agriculture and ways to support native bees. The event will be held at the Clarry Hill Preserve in Union on June 1 from 10 a.m. to noon. The hike will be about 2.5 miles on moderate terrain. For more information or with questions, contact Jade Christensen at MCCland@midcoastconservancy.org or (207) 389-5163.
