Bicentennial Commission announces new dates for Statehood Day Ceremony, Bicentennial Parade
AUGUSTA –The Maine Bicentennial Commission (Maine200) is rescheduling two of its planned events in response to the virus prevention effort, with a view toward hosting the commemorations later in the bicentennial year.
“We are hopeful that Mainers and visitors alike will soon be able to come together safely to celebrate our 200th anniversary of Statehood, and our planning is continuing so that we are prepared to present these special events when that time comes,” said Sen. Bill Diamond, Chairman of the Maine Bicentennial Commission.
- The State of Maine Bicentennial Parade Presented by Poland Spring is now scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2020, in Lewiston and Auburn.
- The Maine Bicentennial Statehood Day Ceremony will now take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2020, in Augusta.
These dates are subject to change based on the status of the current public health crisis. If emergency measures to combat the pandemic are still in place or are reinstated as of July 1, the Bicentennial Commission will revisit its plans and likely announce additional postponements.
