Blessing of the animals in Wiscasset Oct. 1
Sunday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m., Wiscasset’s Town Common will be imprinted with paw prints of our beloved pets! In honor of Saint Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures, we’ll gather to share blessings with our four-legged pets (and some two-legged ones as well).
All are invited to bring your pets, whether they be dogs, cats, guinea pigs, horses, turtles, iguanas, birds ... you get the picture! Please make sure your pet is leashed or in a safe place such as a crate or kennel. We want to make the time we have together as safe and calming as possible for human and animal, alike!
There will be a representative from a local humane shelter and rescue facility to share in the work they do taking care of our most valuable pets. A free will offering will be received to benefit the work they do on our behalf.
A special memory table will help us to honor the lives of our beloved pets who have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Bring a picture of the pet you want to honor as we celebrate their lives and the gifts they have given so freely to the ones who have loved them. They may be gone physically, but they remain in our hearts!
Oct. 1 is the closest day to the feast day of St. Francis, who loved the larks flying about his hilltop town, believing that even the tiniest of animals was worthy of being cared for by us all, because God delighted in creating all the creatures of the earth! All are invited to this celebration! Sponsored by St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and First Congregational Church, both of Wiscasset.
