Brentano Quartet performs at annual benefit concert July 6
Salt Bay Chamberfest will host a very special afternoon of music, friends and refreshment to support the upcoming 2014 Festival on Sunday, July 6 at 4 p.m. The concert will be at the Gregory Residence in Damariscotta.
The 2014 festival, “Darkness & Light” will take place from August 5-16 at Darrows Barn at Round Top Farm in Damariscotta. The Brentano Quartet has had a regular presence at the festival since its inception in 1995. This summer, Salt Bay Chamberfest will celebrate its 20th Anniversary.
The Quartet is named for Antonie Brentano, whom many scholars consider to be Beethoven’s “Immortal Beloved,” the intended recipient of his famous love confession. Fittingly, they will perform Beethoven’s String Quartet, Op. 95 for Salt Bay Chamberfest’s Benefit Concert.
In addition to performing the entire two-century range of the standard quartet repertoire, the Brentano Quartet has a strong interest in both very old and very new music.
The Benefit Concert program will offer a taste of the artistic excellence that audiences have come to expect of Salt Bay Chamberfest. The Brentano Quartet has appeared throughout the world to popular and critical acclaim.
The quartet is the recipient of the Cleveland Quartet Award, the Naumburg Chamber Music Award; they were also the inaugural members of the Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society Two, a coveted distinction for chamber groups and individuals.
In recent seasons, the Quartet has traveled widely, appearing all over the United States and Canada, in Europe, Japan and Australia. It has performed in the world’s most prestigious venues, from Carnegie Hall to the Library of Congress and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam to the Sydney Opera House.
Tickets to the July 6 Benefit Concert are $150 and can be purchased on line at www.saltbaychamberfest.org or by calling BrownPaperTickets.com at 1-800-838-3006.
