The Waldo Theatre (916 Main St.) announces the one-day-only gala event, “Broadway at the Waldo” on Sunday, July 10 at 4 p.m. featuring stars of the local stage performing old favorites and new fancies.

With the assistance of Aaron Robinson, Director Ellie Busby has created a show that will delight and entertain. The Broadway musical is uniquely American. It can make you laugh, cry, and think while humming a tune on the way home. Musical theater in its grand tradition is escapism and all can use a little of that these days.

This show will feature Erin Chenard, Stefani McAllister, Kim Fletcher Smith, Dagney Ernest, Jim Bickford, Laura Whitney, Joseph Lugosch, Wyatt Sykes, Stephen Wallace, Andrew Luke, Fletcher Smith McNaboe, Betsey DeGroff, Skip Simonds, Carol Teel, Teddy Howland, Ellie Busby, Laurie Brown, and Justin Gillman. Teddy Howland will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Teddy, with masters degrees in history and higher education from Boston College, is the Assistant Director for Board Operations at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He lives in Maryland with his husband, Tony. He returns to the Waldo Theatre stage, where he sang his first solo at age 8,” New York, New York,” and tapped danced his way into the hearts of local audiences.

Charles Grindell will play the baby grand piano center stage to accompany the performers. Charlie has been involved in the theater for over 50 years. He worked alongside Tony Award winners Russell Nype and John Wulp. In Boston, he played for Yakov Smirnoff at Nick’s Comedy Stop. Charlie’s comfortable presence makes singers feel safe is an asset to a show like this where so much must be done by remote.

The Waldo Theatre was owned in the early 80s by Dr. Ed Kitfield who invited a local community theater to bring a musical to the stage. “The Sound of Music” was the first live musical in over 25 years. In “Broadway at the Waldo” Karol Clark will begin the gala with the opening number from that musical. She was the star of the original production on the Waldo stage.

From the hills of Austria to the village of Anatevka, travel with this cast of 20 performers as they entertain, dream the impossible, celebrate life and the love of the theater.

Come raise a glass at the Kit-Kat Club and welcome musical theater back to the stage at the historic Waldo Theatre. Doors open at 3 p.m. Wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase before the show. At intermission drinks, along with snacks can be purchased. The Waldo’s Bill and Joan Alfond Gallery will feature photos from past performances.

Following current Covid-19 CDC guidelines, The Waldo recommends all visitors to the theater wear masks.

Tickets will sell out fast. Advance purchase strongly suggested. Advance ticket holders will be updated about any changes in protocols.
