Call for art for ‘Transforming Violence II’ exhibition
The Harlow Gallery, in partnership with the Family Violence Project of Augusta, announce a call for Maine artists to create art for an exhibition entitled, “It Takes a Community: Transforming Violence II,” at the Harlow Gallery in October.
“It Takes a Community: Transforming Violence II” will take place Oct. 2-24, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Using the power of art, the exhibition will voice a collective rejection of the use of domestic violence to control and manipulate others, and will challenge our society’s overall acceptance of violence. Organizers hope to raise public awareness about the continuing problem of domestic violence in Maine.
Emailed submissions will be reviewed by a curatorial committee comprises staff and volunteers from both organizations.
All media welcome, including all 2D media, sculpture, photography, electronic art, installation, fine craft, etc.
To participate, visit http://harlowgallery.org/call-for-artists-transforming-violence-2015 and click on “artist opportunities.”
In October 2005 the Harlow Gallery and the Family Violence Project partnered to present “Transforming Violence” a collaborative, multi-voice, educational art exhibition and workshop series responding to the problem of domestic violence in our communities. It was an important, empowering and transforming experience for everyone who participated.
While there has been an increase in community awareness in the community since then, domestic violence is still still taking a terrible toll on Maine families.
The Harlow Gallery is located at 160 Water Street in downtown Hallowell.
