Camden Garden Club to host district meeting
The Camden Garden Club will host the annual meeting of the Medomak District of the Garden Club Federation of Maine at Point Lookout Resort & Conference Center on Monday, May 2. The theme this year is “Garden to Table,” and the featured speaker will be Jacinda Martinez, designer, educator and owner of Grounded Local, an edible garden design business. Ms. Martinez previously worked as head gardener for the James Beard award winning chef Melissa Kelly at Primo Restaurant in Rockland. There she began to see the farm as art and, under her leadership, Yankee magazine voted Primo's gardens the most beautiful in New England for 2014. She values growing sustainable and organic food in the broader context of bringing people together to celebrate good food and hard work.
The Point Lookout Resort & Conference Center is located at 67 Atlantic Highway in Northport. The meeting and lunch will take place in the Compass Room which commands spectacular panoramic views overlooking Penobscot Bay. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in the lobby of The Summit where a White Elephant sale table and a number of raffle prizes donated by participating garden clubs will be on display. The meeting will commence at 10 a.m. followed by a buffet lunch at noon and Jacinda Martinez at 1 p.m. The day will conclude with a tour of the Point Lookout Farm.
You need not be a garden club member to attend, but reservations are required for this event. Tickets are $40 each and checks made payable to Medomak District GCFM should be sent to Fran Moore, P.O. Box 464, Camden ME 04843 no later than April 20, 2016. For more information please contact annvan@myfairpoint.com (207) 230-2566 or fim@tidewater.net (207) 763-4220.
