Community gardening plots now available at Morris Farm
The Margaret Ellis Community Garden, located at the Morris Farm Trust in Wiscasset, is now accepting applications for garden plots for the 2016 Growing Season. Garden Plots are 10 feet by 20 feet, and cost $45 for a season rental.
2016 marks the seventh season of community gardening at the Morris Farm. Community gardening offers opportunities for growing tasty and nutritious produce, developing community identity, ownership and stewardship, lowering food bills, meeting new neighbors and forming new friendships, as well as reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
An excellent solution for those whose home yards do not offer adequate space, sunlight or soil for gardening, the Margaret Ellis community Garden plots are available to all residents of Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties. The more than 20 plots available include a common plot where vegetables are grown for sale at the Morris Farm Store, as well as donations to area food banks.
Applications may be requested by calling 207-380-7154 or emailing mf.comgardens@gmail.com. Applications may also be picked up at the Morris Farm office.
A nonprofit educational farm located at 156 Gardiner Road in Wiscasset, The Morris Farm Trust is home to the Morris Farm School Garden, a University of Maine Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Demonstration Garden, the Margaret Ellis Community Garden, and a summer Farm Camp for children.
