Damariscotta artist's show at Rockland church
Damariscotta artist Marnie Sinclair has a solo exhibition of her artwork at the Rockland Congregational Church until November 22. The show is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The show is a mixed-media exhibit, including oils, bronzes, sculptures made from found objects, and paper collages.
A process artist, Sinclair works in many mediums, and uses the medium that she feels most eloquently illustrates the concept she is trying to share. Her love for nature has evolved into a concern for the environment. She says, “Art has the ability to reach the viewer not only on an aesthetic level but also visceral. If it solicits an emotional response like compassion, or concern, then perhaps it can trigger a call to action.”
Visitors to her current show will find a bronze sculpture of a sea otter, a driftwood and fish net sculpture depicting carbon dioxide above the Earth, and paper collages of trees and plants. “I now use my art to solicit an appreciation and empathy for nature, with the hope of promoting respect, protection and a more sustainable way of living, that will ultimately impact us all, says Sinclair.
Sinclair is a signature member of the Bristol Road Galleries, and a member of the Pemaquid group of artists. Her bronze sculptures can also be found at the Ducktrap Bay Trading Company in Camden.
