DAR, Legion teaming up to support Wreaths Across America mission
Daughters of Pemaquid Chapter, MSODAR are teaming up with American Legion Post #36 in Boothbay to help coordinate the fundraising for both WAA and to fund the purchase of a trailer for the Boothbay V.E.T.S. project.
Wreaths Across America is the non-profit organization best known for placing veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of our nation’s fallen at Arlington National Cemetery. It was begun by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992. However, the organization, in total, places more than 1.7 million sponsored wreaths in other locations in all 50 states and beyond and offers other programs throughout the calendar year. These programs include The Mobile Education Exhibit and Wreaths Across America Radio.
Each year a ceremony is held simultaneously across the country at more than 2,500 locations. This year National Wreaths Across America Day will be on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021.
Miriam Buckley has been the key advocate for the Chapter’s involvement in this important activity over the years. This is our way of continuing her commitment to WAA.
You can sponsor a wreath for $15 at https://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/ME0092P. Each sponsorship goes toward a fresh balsam veteran’s wreath that will be placed on the headstone of an American hero as we endeavor to honor all veterans laid to rest. Each wreath sponsorship provides a wreath for WAA to place on a grave and the Chapter receives $5.
The deadline for your sponsorship is Nov. 30, 2021. Please act right away so that you don’t miss this deadline.
