Deputies investigating Boothbay fatal crash
On Monday, June 19 at 5:39 p.m., Lincoln County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash on River Road in Boothbay.
Deputies responded and found a single vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree. The black 2017 Ford Focus had been eastbound on River Road when it crested a knoll and lost control. The vehicle then crossed the westbound lane and left the roadway where it struck a large tree.
The operator/owner of the car, Gregory D. Fetner, 41, of Jefferson was the only occupant. Fetner did not survive the crash. He was wearing a seat belt and the airbags did deploy.
Preliminary investigations indicate speed was a factor in this crash.
Sergeant Scott Hayden is the primary investigator. He was assisted by Boothbay Region Ambulance Service, Boothbay Fire Department and Brunswick Police Accident Reconstruction Investigators.
