Dresden man shot by Maine State Police detective during search
Today, July 23, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Maine State Police Tactical Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team in tracking and executing search and arrest warrants for Frank Foss, Jr., 28, of Dresden.
The Sheriff’s Office had an active arrest warrant for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and bail violations associated with a prior class C domestic violence incident, according to a news release from the Maine Dept. of Public Safety.
“Based on their investigation, detectives with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office had obtained a search warrant for 17 Hankerson Road in Chelsea,” the release said. “While searching the wooded area surrounding the residence, a Tactical Team member encountered Foss, Jr., who was armed with a handgun and pointed it at a Tactical Team member. As a result, Foss, Jr., was shot and killed by State Police Detective Scott Duff.
“Detective Duff will be on administrative leave, which is standard practice in any officer involved shooting. The Attorney General’s Office will be investigating the officer involved shooting. “
