Dresden opens search for new administrative assistant
Dresden selectmen announced Monday, July 10 they will advertise for an administrative assistant to replace Trudy Foss, who will retire Dec. 31.
The job pays $35,000 and offers health insurance for a 40-hour work week, said First Selectman Dale Hinote. Applicants can have a college degree in administration or equivalent work experience. “It is a generalized job description. Anyone can apply,” said Hinote.
He hoped to fill the job before October so the new person can learn from Foss. “We don’t want to train anybody for a year,” he said. The town will advertise in local and state newspapers and on the Maine Municipal Association website. Hinote said selectmen will make a pick as soon as they find the applicant they feel best fits the job.
In other business, the board agreed to meet with town website designer Lauren Haven on Monday, July 17 at 5 p.m. at the town office to discuss how to improve the page. “We would like it to have more clarity and possibly more excitement,” said Hinote.
“It is difficult to make an improvement if I don’t know what you have in mind,” Haven told the board Monday.
Hinote said the board had not put the designer job out to bid but had received interest from someone else.
The board agreed to table a draft contract with Wiscasset Ambulance Service until wording is clarified. Selectman Alan Moeller cited a clause making Dresden responsible for paying uncollected bills from mutual aid calls to which another service responds. The clause was contrary to the board’s understanding, Moeller said.
Moeller said he had not received notification that bids for work on the Bog Road culvert project had been advertised. He said it was getting late for the work to be completed this year. He said it was important to know soon if the town has enough funds to match a $84,000 grant from the Department of Environmental Protection.
Fire Chief Steve Lilly announced the department had received a Spirit of America award at Dresden’s Summerfest celebration on Sunday, July 9. “It was a surprise to us. It is well-appreciated,” said Lilly.
