At its annual meeting, the membership of Edgecomb Community Church voted unanimously to become an Open and Affirming congregation. This means, simply, that everyone is welcome to worship at this church no matter who they are or where they are on life’s journey.

After the vote, the church council submitted its request to the United Church of Christ for approval. The application was accepted and this church is now officially “ONA.”

Our covenant states: “Edgecomb Community Church, United Church of Christ, Edgecomb, Maine, is open and affirming, united by our faith in God and our call to be disciples of Jesus Christ. We acknowledge and affirm the equal value of people of all ages, races, nationalities, ethnicities, cultures, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, regardless of physical, mental, or emotional abilities, family structures, faith backgrounds, or social or economic circumstances. We believe that all people are created in the image of God and together we strive to honor the great commandments: to love God with all our heart, soul and mind and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
