Edwin L. Brewer Sr.
Edwin L. Brewer Sr., 83, died September 25, 2013 at his home in Trevett.
He was born April 3, 1930 in Boothbay Harbor to Archibald and Julia Alley Brewer. He grew up in Boothbay and attended local schools. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952.
He married Lorraine Emmett Brewer on February 2, 1952. In the early years of their marriage they lived in Massachusetts and New Jersey before moving back to Maine. He was a painter for many years, starting with residences and finishing as a sprayer at Bath Iron Works. He also worked for Ship Ahoy Motel and Fisherman’s Wharf.
He enjoyed singing and playing his guitar. He also played harmonica and accordion. He loved animals, bird watching, dancing, and going to lawn sales. He was also an innovative inventor, often bringing back junk to his house to work on his next project.
He was a family man, always putting his wife and children first. He would also help out anyone if they needed it. He always enjoyed having little kids around and they would always make him smile. He was a member of the Charles E. Sherman Jr. American Legion Post and the V.F.W.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine Brewer; infant son, Joseph Brewer; daughter, Bernadette Osgood; brothers, Tom, Vernon, Stillman and Herbert Brewer; sisters, Jennie Cromwell, Nora Clifford, Margaret Emerson, Lulu Sprague, Cornelia Johannson and infant sister Georgiana Brewer.
He is survived by his daughters, Gloria Larkin of Woolwich, Eileen Barter of Whitefield; Loriann Barter of Trevett; sons, Edwin Brewer Jr. of Brunswick and David Brewer of Boothbay; sisters, Irma Heaberlin of Boothbay and Evelyn Nancy McKnight of South Bristol; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.
Friends and relatives were invited to visit on September 30 followed by a service to celebrate Edwin’s life at 1 p.m. held on October 1 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay.
