low pressure enters Gulf of Maine Tuesday, to deepen, pivot toward the Midcoast
February kicks off stormy couple of days
MIDCOAST — A massive weather system has marched across the country and is settling into Maine as a nor’easter this evening, bringing heavy snow, wind and rain to the Midcoast that will taper off, but last through Wednesday.
The storm is to move on toward Nova Scotia by Tuesday night, but not before dumping what the National Weather Service labels a significant snowfall.
“Warmer high pressure builds in behind the storm later next week, then another storm system approaches from the west by the end of the week, said the National Weather Service office in Gray.
The main show is to start later this afternoon and evening.
“As low pressure enters the Gulf of Maine on Tuesday, it deepens and pivots toward the Midcoast as the trough aloft amplifies and tilts negatively across the East Coast,” the NWS said. “This will bring renewed forcing and more
precipitation over Maine Tuesday afternoon and evening... however considerable uncertainty remains with this feature. Upsloping takes over thereafter into Wednesday.”
