Food Insecurity, Community Connection Program receive award
The Coulombe Center for Health Improvement recently recognized Veggies to Table as the sixth annual Innovation Award recipient. The award was presented on June 20 at a small gathering at Coastal Prime in Boothbay Harbor. Founders Erica Berman and Alain Ollier accepted the award.
“The spirit around the way they do their work is inspirational,” said Anni Pat McKenney, Director of the Coulombe Center. “To provide organically grown produce - the quality you would see at a farmers’ market - truly honors the people they serve.”
Veggies to Table is in its fifth year of service to Lincoln County. In the first four seasons, with the help of more than 350 volunteers and their team, more than 44,500 pounds of organic produce had been donated to those in need. In addition, the non-profit also spread joy by delivering more than 45,000 flowers to various organizations, families and individuals.
“Thanks to Veggies to Table, I have the pleasure of offering fresh organic produce and gorgeous flowers to my community,” wrote a local food pantry manager. “Giving my patrons the luxury of non-toxic vegetables that have been grown with love specifically for them is a blessing. We are all so thankful to have them in our community helping us fight food insecurity and spreading joy.”
Nominations for the Innovation Award are made by the community, and organizations cannot self-nominate. A selection committee, including LincolnHealth and Coulombe Center leadership, seeks input from community members and past awardees to select a winner.
