Frank B. Main
Frank B. Main, 87, of Paine Road in Boothbay Harbor passed away Aug. 31, 2018 at the Togus VA Hospice.
He was born July 17, 1931 in Wiscasset, Maine, a son of Leslie and Elizabeth Main.
He attended local schools and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950. He was stationed in Greenland for much of his enlistment, and was honorably discharged in August of 1953.
He married his wife of 57 years, Jeanette L. Benner in 1953. They lived in Boothbay Harbor where they raised their seven children.
He was employed for many years as a mason with his father and brothers, and also as a clam digger and worm digger until at least the age of 75. He also put on the clambakes at Gray’s Wharf for a number of years.
He enjoyed watching wrestling, “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy” on TV, along with many of the ’60s shows. He spent much of his time playing with or watching his 16 grandchildren, and then his 20 great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed coin collecting. For the last couple of years he enjoyed riding down into town in his motorized wheelchair and having coffee at Caper’s.
He was predeceased by his wife Jeanette, mother Elizabeth, father Leslie, brothers Dick, Harold and John, and sister Margaret. His daughter Beth Ann died in 1967 and son Michael died in 2011.
He is survived by his sisters Alice and Betty Wiley, and her husband Don; sons Jim Main, Russel Main, Frank Main Jr. and his wife Lisa, all of Boothbay Harbor; daughters Susan Main and partner Jeff Perry of Lutz, Florida, and daughter Tracy Dunton and husband Eric of South Bristol. He is also survived by his sister-in law Suzanne Raudenbush and her husband Bob, along with many nieces and nephews.
A military honors service will be at the Oak Lawn Cemetery off Route 96 in Boothbay Harbor at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13. A gathering of his friends and family will follow at the American Legion Hall off Route 27 in Boothbay at 2:30.
