Garden club meets May 2
The Garden Club of Wiscasset will have its next meeting on May 2 at Fellowship Hall of Congregational Church, 28 High St., in Wiscasset. Flower design practice with a May basket theme is at 11:30 am. A brief business meeting is at 12:30 pm and our speaker at 1 p.m.
We are very excited to have horticulturalist Diane Walden-Rapalyea from Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens speak on "Slow Flowers." She offers a historical look at the evolving business of cut flowers, the current flower revolution and the slow flower movement.
According to Walden-Rapalyea, The U.S. imports over 80% of its cut flowers, a trend supporters of the slow flower movement seek to change by promoting more farm/field/garden-to-arrangement sourcing. Maine offers many opportunities to buy and grow locally. Walden-Rapalyea's beautiful garlands have graced many ribbon cutting celebrations, and she creates many of the arrangements and container plantings CMBG visitors so admire.
Refreshments follow the program. The public is invited free of charge.
