The Garden Club of Wiscasset meets Sept. 1
The monthly meeting of The Garden Club Of Wiscasset will be on Sept. 1, at the Nickels-Sortwell barn (behind the house and gardens) on Federal Street in Wiscasset. The meeting begins at 12:30 p.m .and the program follows at 1 p.m.
Cathy Messmer will present part two of a two part series on the gardens created by the Alvin and Gertrude Sortwell family during their time of residence in what is now known as the Nickels-Sortwell House. This talk will tell the story of the creation of the garden in the back of the house in the mid-1920s and will share period photos of the early work to create the garden. It also focuses on how it was used up until the 1950s. She has entitled her talk, "A New Wiscasset Garden for the Sortwells."
Tea in the garden to follow. Public invited free of charge.
