Giving soil fertility a real boost
Would you like to learn from an expert how to turn a so-so garden into a fertile growing place? You’ll have that opportunity on Wednesday, April 29, 7 to 8:30 p.m., when Samuel Kaymen, one of the country’s most prominent authorities on organic and bio-dynamic agriculture, will discuss the basics of soil and soil fertility at the FARMS Community Kitchen (upstairs above the Rising Tide Market) in Damariscotta.
During his presentation, Kaymen will gladly answer your questions and others, such as:
- What is soil fertility? How does it affect plant growth and plant resistance to disease and pests?
- How can I build soil fertility? What is "fertilizer” and why are minerals important?
- What is compost, and why is it essential? How do I make it and use it?
- How do I treat the soil during the growing season and, later, after harvesting my plants?
This presentation is free and reservations are not required. Donations may be made to benefit the work of the FARMS teaching team.
