Twelve students competed in Edgecomb Eddy School’s spelling bee on Monday, Jan. 30. The two best spellers from first through sixth grades represented their classes. All contestants did a great job under the pressure of performing in front of their teachers, classmates, parents, relatives and friends. The winner was fifth grader Catherine Clifford, who correctly spelled “bedraggled.” Ross Gaffney, a third grader, was the runner-up. With all the demonstrations, riots, Cabinet hearings and other happenings dominating the news, Tom Nickerson of Back River Road, Boothbay has reminded people that, yes, there is another Super Bowl featuring New England’s beloved Patriots.
