Greet the new year at Feed Our Scholars yoga event
Need to get the cobwebs out on New Year’s Day? Join Susan Gallagher, certified yoga instructor, at St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset, at 11 a.m. for an hour’s stretch and strengthening.
All are welcome, no matter the age or ability.
Lots of sunrise salutations that work all the major muscle groups will be featured. Bring a mat and pillow, says Gallagher.
Admission is by donation, and all proceeds are dedicated to helping support the local effort to provide weekend packs of food during the school year for children attending Wiscasset schools who are in need of extra nutrition.
Children from the towns of Westport Island, Wiscasset and Alna qualify for the weekend packs of nutritionally balanced foods, with an increase from 56 to 80 children supported beginning in January.
Yoga has its origins in the Far East and for millennium has been utilized as a form of mind/body connecting worship by Hindus. More recently, Westerners have taken it up as an effective, low impact exercise regimen that strengthens, stretches and builds flexibility, great for all ages and abilities.
Take advantage of ridding the body of the stresses and strains accumulated during 2014, while opening up to the promises of 2015, under Gallagher’s expert direction, and in the process, help provide food for growing bodies and brains.
