Harbor master’s boat to be re-advertised for sale
Wiscasset is trying to sell the harbor’s boat after determining it would cost $10,000 to $11,000 to fix. But it turns out the boat hadn’t been declared surplus property before it was listed for sale. The town will re-advertise it.
Selectman Ben Rines Jr. brought the matter up Tuesday night and suggested postponing the bid-opening. A half dozen bids were received.
Although an advertisement for the boat listed it as surplus, the board hadn’t declared it as such. After further discussion selectmen voted unanimously to declare the boat as surplus, re-advertise it and open bids July 26.
Selectmen awarded this summer’s paving and chip seal bid to All States Asphalt Inc. of Windham, the lowest of two bidders at $159,730.
The 2016 tax anticipation note was awarded to Bath Savings Institution of Bath, the lowest of four bidders, with an interest rate of .79 percent.
Selectmen postponed action on White’s Island. They plan to meet with a representative of Maine Coast Heritage Trust on July 26.
MCHT purchased the island earlier this year and offered it to the town on the condition it remain in its natural state and open to the public for daytime, low-impact recreational use.
Selectmen put off signing a quit claim deed for the transfer of the island’s ownership following concerns over the agreement’s wording.
The board directed Town Manager Marian Anderson to contact Maine’s Congressional delegation concerning partnering with officials from Zion, Illinois for co-sponsoring nuclear waste-related legislation. Zion officials are seeking up to $100 million in federal funding to address nuclear waste storage sites like the one in their community and others including the Maine Yankee site in Wiscasset.
Selectmen want to hear from Maine’s Congressional delegation before acting further.
Selectmen postponed an agreement with Central Maine Power Company for construction of an electrical substation off Old Ferry Road. CMP has offered to pay for a legal opinion and plans to pay fair market value for the property. The board will take up the request July 26.
Selectmen approved a request by the Wiscasset Art Walk Committee to place a temporary popup art illustration downtown on the night of the art walks.The illustration will require two parking spaces on Main Street.
Selectmen accepted the resignation of Wastewater Treatment Plant employee Tony Gamrat, effective June 17; granted a request from the Friends of the Library to place temporary signs on the Town Common and a sign advertising the community center’s summer concert series.; postponed an executive session with legal counsel to discuss the Mason Station property on Birch Point until 5 p.m., July 26; and held an executive session on a personnel matter.
