Harold P. Mansfield
Harold P. “Hal” Mansfield of Boothbay died Feb. 4, 2023 of natural causes at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
He was born on June 28, 1943, to the late Harold P. Mansfield and Claribel (Plant) Mansfield in Brockton, Massachusetts.
Hal graduated from Stoughton High School and Bryant-Stratton Business College in Boston and served six years in the U.S. Coast Guard.
He married Cherrelyn Bartlett in 1966 and they moved to Boothbay Harbor in 1972 and had two children, Holly and Bill.
He worked with his father at Boothbay Braids before it closed in the early 1980s. He then worked at both the Southport and Barters Island bridges for many years. He also worked at Shop & Save/Hannaford and the YMCA.
He was an avid supporter and fan of the Carousel Music Theater in Boothbay Harbor. If the lights were on at the Carousel Music Theater in Boothbay Harbor, chances were Hal was there. In 2016, Hal marked his 1,000th show as a paying customer at the popular theater, an unofficial record. He became a familiar supportive face for cast members who are often young and without nearby relatives; he often brought the cast and crew gift certificates to ice cream shops, mini golf, and even bake apple pies. In addition to the Carousel, Hal was a longtime supporter of the Boothbay Harbor Opera House and the Brunswick-based Maine State Music Theatre.
Hal is survived by his wife Cherrelyn; daughter Holly Lewis and husband Steve; son William (Bill) Mansfield and Leah Plummer; grandchildren Steve Lewis, Kayla Lewis, Chase Mansfield, Sophia Mansfield; brother Tom Mansfield and his wife Susan.
He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Claribel Mansfield, and sisters Laila Lyons and Loraine Morris.
Per Hal’s request, no services will be held.
