James A. Brown
James A. Brown, 93, of Wickliffe, Ohio died peacefully on Feb. 2, 2018 at Lake West Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 21, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Arthur and Gertrude (nee Powers) Brown.
Jim graduated from Cleveland Heights High Schol and then went on to serve in the Army during World War II. After returning from his years in the Army, he attended Kent State University where he received a BA and an MA in education. Jim then went on to teach for 35 years, retiring in 1985 from the West Geauga School District.
He lived in Kirtland, Ohio and Willoughby, Ohio and also resided in Ocean Point, Boothbay, Maine and Palmetto, Florida. While spending summers with his family at Ocean Point, Jim coached kids softball and was president of the Wilson Memorial Chapel.
Jim is survived by his children, Betsy (Bruce) Plummer of Boxboro, Massachusetts; Bob (Mary) Brown of Willoughby, Ohio; Barry (Kim) Brown of Burton, Ohio; and Bill (Rhoda) Brown of Gilbert, Arizona. He was also the beloved Papa to Nicole and Matthew Plummer; Sara, CJ and Carolyn Brown; McKenna Brown; and Rio and Kai Brown.
Family was the most important thing to Jim and he especially cherished the moments he spent with his grandchildren. Jim was a wonderful husband, father and Papa and will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (nee Johnston).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name to the Wilson Memorial Chapel, East Boothbay, ME 04544, Ocean Point Colony Trust, or a charity of one’s choice.
A private family service will be held this summer at Ocean Point.
