‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ opens June 29
Maine State Music Theatre will open the sensational “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” on June 29 and run the show through July 16. The show tells the journey of Joseph, son of Jacob and one of 12 brothers, and his coat of many colors. Based on the Bible’s book of Genesis and originating from a cantata written for a school choir, Joseph is a much-loved family classic.
Written in 1968, and featuring lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the multiple-award winning musical follows preferred son Joseph. After being sold into slavery by his brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in jail after refusing the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled, Elvis-inspired, Pharaoh. Joseph’s solution to Egypt’s famine elevates him to Pharaoh’s right-hand man and reunites him with his family.
Joseph’s coat, which is always a stand out in every production of ‘Joseph’ … is particularly special for MSMT’s production. It is being crafted from fabric featured in past MSMT shows.
”Joseph” features Jordan Alexander as Joseph and Alyssa Anani as Narrator. Jeff Max is Pharaoh, with Blake Hammond as Jacob/Potiphar. The twelve brothers are played by Chad Takeda (Levi), Austin Phillips (Benjamin), Willie Clyde Beaton II (Judah), Kyle Laing (Simeon), Brian Padgett (Rueben/Baker), Jonathan Bryant (Asher), Jorge Guerra (Gad), Diego Cortes (Dan), Ron King (Naphtali/Butler), and Alex Joseph Stewart (Isaacar), who will also be Dance Captain for the show.
The wives are played by Taylor Lane (Potiphar’s Wife), Courtney Blackmun, Taylor Quick, and Lina Rose Lee. Swings include Brooke Taylor Cottrell, Preston Karp and Joshua Bellamy.
The creative team includes Alex Sanchez (Broadway’s Paradise Square) as director/choreographer, Jason Wetzel as music director, Katie Dowse as costume designer, Kevin S. Foster II as wig designer, Annalise V. Caudle as lighting designer, William James Mohney as set designer, Shannon Slaton as sound designer, and Mark Johnson as stage manager.
