Judith A. Pinkham
Judith Adams “Judy” Pinkham, 89, passed away peacefully at Lakewood Continuing Care in Waterville, Maine, where she had been a resident since 2021. She was the last Adams’ child to be born in the family home, built in 1762 by our ancestor, carpenter Samuel Adams and lived in the home for most of her life.
Judy was born in Boothbay, Maine, on Sept. 19, 1934, the younger daughter of Carlton and Victoria (Gove) Adams. She attended Boothbay schools and Boothbay Harbor High School graduating in 1953. She then went to University of Maine at Farmington (then Farmington State Teachers College) where she majored in Home Economics and Early Childhood Education. After graduating from Farmington, Judy married her childhood sweetheart, Owen Pinkham, of Boothbay Harbor and had two children, Ellen and Scott.
Right after college, Judy taught at Wiscasset High School for a few years and then transitioned to owning a business in her home around 1968, Jack and Jill Nursery School. Many area children and families knew her as the beloved Mrs. Pinkham, who was kind and caring and supported the entire family in the child’s first educational experience. She retired after enjoying 29 years of teaching.
After retiring, Judy devoted time to her interests in gardening and preserving the harvest, couponing, knitting, berry picking, visiting her children and grandchildren, making her famous pies (lots of pies!), and bread. She was an active member of the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor, often serving on committees and helping where needed.
After moving to Waterville to be closer to Ellen, she enjoyed spending time with new friends and staff, live music, word searches, coloring, reading, bingo, Ice Cream Shoppe ice cream, and other activities presented by Lakewood.
Judy was predeceased by loving husband of 61 years, Owen Pinkham, and sister, Joyce Murray.
Judy is survived by daughter, Ellen Pinkham of Waterville, Maine; son, Scott Pinkham (Jacqueline Sutherland Pinkham) of Dunkirk, Maryland; grandchildren, Alexandra, Aidan, and Christopher of Dunkirk, Maryland; Catherine Pinkham Berger (Alexis Berger) of Glencoe, Illinois; Caleb Pinkham (Thais Lage Pinkham) of Melbourne, Florida; great-granddaughter, Meyer Rae Berger and great-grandson, Asher Jude Berger, both of Glencoe, Illinois (Asher’s middle name is in honor of his great-grandmother Judy, something that delighted her to no end.) Judy is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff who lovingly cared for Judy at Lakewood in Waterville. Special thanks to Beacon Hospice angels for their incredible care, dedication, and kindness in the final days of her life.
